Kick it, Trek-style!
Airwalk does the unthinkable, bringing together those who grind with those who speak fluent Klingon

It’s not often that skaters and Trekkies can find common ground, but this weekend, Payless shoe stores across the galaxy will debut the all-new Star Trek STPL x—a line of Trek-inspired skate shoes from Airwalk. Those who prefer to not leave the house can order the limited-edition kicks through the Payless website.

Created by renowned New York City designer jeffstaple and carrying a $49.99 price tag, the shoes are available in three different “away team” colors: Captain Kirk yellow, Spock blue, or Scotty (or rather, nameless, soon-to-be-killed “security officer”) red. And while the Trek set will most certainly get a kick out of the Starfleet insignias that adorn the shoes, skaters can expect the quality and support they’ve come to know from the Airwalk brand—and also get an in with those cute “Nerdbirds” out there.

PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN:

MOAR BELOW THE CUT! )

IF YOU ARE UNPERTURBED AND WISH TO ACQUIRE THESE HOT-ASS KICKS AT YOUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE, they're $50 from Payless, LIMITED TIME ONLY or something, and can be ordered online or purchased in stores.

Frolicking!Shatner thanks you for your time.

Since the other macro went so well, I could not resist producing this crackalicious opera, The TOS Marco Musical Extravaganza: "The Senses." Featuring even more of our beloved GQMFs: Kirk, Spock, and Bones (of course!), with special appearances by super GQMFs Sulu, Scotty, Uhura, and Rand. Enjoy!
Song 'the senses' by the Animaniacs. For best results, play the song and follow along. Pics from various sources, but special thanks to [info]titc 's fun site.

Mr. Pegg is amazed by the beauty of this high definition bamf.

So, in a stroke of luck, my Blu-ray copy arrived about a week ago, aka two weeks before the release date. Though I have watched it (and it is GLORIOUS, natch), I haven't had a chance to share its beauty until now. For the record, this is the Canadian version of the three-disc special edition Blu-ray, directly from the manufacturer. I imagine the only difference between the Canadian version and any other English version is the bilingual insert. You know. Excuse the bad quality pictures as I'm not sure where the chargers are for my actual cameras, but perhaps this will tide you over until you too possess this cinematic masterpiece of UNF. Behold!

all GQMFs coming soon in high def to your bedroom . . . television sets )

I have a question for you ladies: While it generally states 'startrek' in our community title, we do tend to focus on XI and TOS here. How does everyone feel about seeing more red carpet and event photos of our favorite TNG/VOY/ENT/DS9 GQMFs?

Recently bought the DVD of a William Shatner movie from 1977 called "Kingdom of the Spiders"... The whole thing is up on youtube, here's the trailer.

So, this movie is about a veterinarian Dr Robert 'Rack' Hansen (played by Shatner) who stumbles upon hundreds thousands MILLIONS of migrating tarantulas that are super venomous and ready to kill. It is set in rural Arizona.

This movie is plagued with awkward verbal sexual innuendos, especially if you have a dirty mind like my friends and I do. For your consideration:

Terry Hansen: Rack, you're a funny man. You wont be with your brother's wife, but you take care of her like you were. Isn't that like buying the cow and giving the milk away?
Dr. Robert 'Rack' Hansen: You don't quit pestering me, one of these mornings I'm gonna show up and start milking that cow.
Terry Hansen: Well, make sure your hands are warm.
[Rack giggles and holds his hands up in a clawing manner]

^If you don't believe me, it's at 4:42^ )

There is also a hilarious scene where a lady is shooting at the tarantulas on her bedroom floor with a handgun. Somehow, one of the tarantulas gets on her other hand. The solution? She shoots her hand off to get the spider away. Win/Fail?

Highly recommended if you like William Shatner/"B" movies/tarantulas.

Charlie Bridgen over at Den of Geek offered a few thoughts on what the sequel should hold and what it should avoid (Twilight crossover, I'm looking at you!).

‘Aww, they're drinking bloodwine to honour their fallen comrades who did a kamikaze run on a Jem'Hadar battlecruiser. How adorable!' )

Breakout movie actress:  Anna Kendrick , Emily Osment , Ginnifer Goodwin , Miley Cyrus , Zoe Saldana.
Breakout movie actor: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sam Worthington, Taylor Lautner, Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine

STAR TREK TOO! As best franchise and favorite movie. (But it competes against Twilight on both categories and we all know Smeyer fans are really committed when it comes to voting for what they love) Anyway, I am hoping for another "condom-on-ZQ's-pocket-gate" and the RPF that would follow XD

Have fun! ♥

Sunday night, Zoe attended and presented an award at the 4th Annual Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards honoring excellence in the making part of film making- and managed to make at least one best dressed list while doing so.

Zoe also made a best dressed list for the weekend.

Now, Zoe Saldana is one star who can get away with a simple ensemble without inducing the snooze-factor. As the epitome of less is more, this tweed shift creates the perfect hourglass figure thanks to its structured bodice and large pockets that flare out at an angle.

I was surfing around the intertubes the other day, and came across this. I think everyone needs to be made aware of it, like, yesterday.

You may or may not know of Brent Spiner's Ol' Yellow Eyes is Back album (which incidentally I've only heard like one track from), but if you don't, all you need to know is the dude can sing. Last year he made another album with Maude Maggart (whose voice is just... guh - where has she been hiding?) that's pretty much a 40's radio play. It's called Dreamland, and in it Brent's character dreams an entire love tumultuous love affair. There's much lovely singing, quite a bit of humor, and more than a little adorableness. Also: Mark Hammil does some character voices. Just so you know.

^I have that set to start near the end, where you can get the latter two-thirds of one of my favorite songs, To Know You. But I highly recommend watching the whole thing. It's a making-of sort of video.

blahblahblah )

In sum: BRENT MOTHERFUCKING SPINER PANTY-THROWINGLY CROONING LOVE SONGS. CHECK IT OUT. (dirty bonus there's no way not to awkwardly mention: As it's a love story, there are...sounds. High quality MP3s, headphones... I'll let you draw the conclusions.)

Supernatural stud Jensen Ackles and his girlfriend fiance, One Tree Hill actress Danneel Harris, come out to watch the horses race at the Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Santa Anita Park on Saturday (November 7) in Los Angeles.

Jensen, 31, and Dannell, 30, were accompanied by Star Trek star John Cho and his Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay co-star Rachael Harris. Also in attendance: Grey’s Anatomy actor Justin Chambers and Nip/Tuck’s Julian McMahon (not pictured)

EDIT: To answer the speculation: Dannell was in Harold and Kumar with John Cho. Dannell was also recently engaged to Jensen Ackles. So, I think it's fair to say that at some point during the event Sulu and Dean Winchester probably met. Dean Winchester is now 2 degrees of Star Trek. Bam.

For those of you who were able to document your meetups, please post your pics and recaps here, or better yet link to a post in your own LJ so that the comment pages here don't break the internet.

Even if you didn't take any pictures, please feel free to recount the awesomeness of meeting with other GQMF's, any funny conversations or accidental meeting of other Star Trek geeks fans. lol

Last week we had the adventures of the USS (Genderb)Enterprise and [info]svrldsmntls told us about meeting Patrick Stewart.

This is for recaps and pics only, if you want to plan a new one please use the other Monday post.

This is the weekly post where members can plan meetups for movies, conventions, and misc events.

And with the DVD out in several countries, and about to be release in several others, this is the perfect reason for a meet-up!

THIS THREAD IS NOT THE PLANNING OR DISCUSSION AREA; just specify the city you're in and link to a post in your personal journal where your neighbors can plan the meetup with you.

If you're not organizing a meet-up, but looking for other GQMFs near you doing one, check out the list of communities dedicated to these meet-ups under the cut. )

Hi guys :)

I'm writing a paper on Kirk/Spock slashers (UM WHY YES I DO LOVE MY COURSE, THANK YOU) and I wanted to take a kind of survey - I figured who better to ask than all you awesome GQMFs?

SO. The survey is here, on my journal. There's only four questions, and they're pretty simple. Basically you can be as specific or as vague with your answers as you want, it's entirely up to you. One word answers are awesome, and so are answers that are completely over the top tl;dr xD

Also all comments are screened, and anonymous commenting is enabled, so your answers will be completely private if you want them to be. And don't worry, I won't be publishing my paper or anything like that, this is purely for school essay writing purposes :)

AND HERE IS A PINTO PICSPAM FYT )

.. yeah I know it should have been a Spork picspam, but I'm in a hurry and had these sitting on my photobucket already xD

(Because if Sarek had it, we can assume Spock's got a good chance at it too, amirite?)

The rather-unreliable tool that is LJ Seek tells me that this has not been shared with the GQMFs on here, but forgive me if it has.

Was going through my Star Trek folder on my computer and found a vid I hadn't watched in a while: Spock vs. Q. You've got to assume that anything with the inimitable John DeLancie and Leonard Nimoy is going to be good. The vid consists of clips from the recording of the album, and it's not overly easy to get a good picture of the context of some of the clips. Especially the last one.

(Embedding has been disabled, sry. Link to the beginning of the last clip.)

All I can think we're supposed to assume is that Q passed the bong. Seriously, idk what the shit is this shit, but I've watched it something like 6 times in a row now and it doesn't stop being freaking hilarious.

ETA: The relevant Memory Alpha entries are Here and The Sequel. They're from the Alien Voices series, which I love freaking hard--sci-fi stuff audio-tized by Star Trek alums? What's not to love?--but are often hard to find. I discovered Alien Voices (in particular, their recording of War of the Worlds) on cassette as a kid at my public library, so that'd be a good place to look.

Yesterday, my friends and I went to a screening of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home at Paramount Studios, sponsored by the California State Parks Commission. A totally amazing experience watching ST: IV on the big screen FROM THE ORIGINAL FILM REELS FROM THE 1980s! They had a "previously on Star Trek" segment in the beginning and a different title sequence oozing with 1980s flair. Plus, it was just that much more exciting seeing the film the way it was supposed to be seen -- on a huge screen and rumbling with surround sound.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I'm no Annie Liebowitz with the camera, okay.

Oh, and afterwards there was a Q&A with the illustrious director himself! Who is Leonard Nimoy. (If you didn't know that, Vulcan nerve pinch yourself right now.) My friend was awesome enough to record the whole thing on her camera and upload it to YouTube, and she gave me permission to post it here. Credit for the videos goes to Stella Cao!

Sorry the sound quality isn't the best. I recorded a couple clips myself, and they all turned out the same because of the echo in the auditorium.

Rest of the vids after the jump!!! )
