i calculate about... 70% of this time as time spent in the car/on the road. apparently we drove through at least 10 cities.

but i digress.

FARRAGUT NORTH WAS BRILLIANT.
it began kind of slow, introducing the audience to the characters and their relationships.
i kind of did not like the actress they have cast for the role of the reporter, but she isn't such an integral part of the play.

it quickly picked up and by the time act 1 was finished, i was focusing on the performance so much that i was kind of slack-jawed and wide eyed and eager to watch act 2.

chris pine is a brilliant actor. his roles are executed so well on screen, but live, you are able to feel the power of his charisma and ability so, so much more. i was astounded by his performance, and if the tickets weren't so expensive and if the play wasn't down to two or so weeks left running, i would love to see it again. (THERE'S TOTALLY THIS "DONATE $50 AND GET ENTERED IN THE RAFFLE TO WIN 4 TICKETS TO CLOSING NIGHT/PRIVATE CAST PARTY AFTERWARDS" AND THUIAEJKRFDS I AM SO SO SO TEMPTED BUT. $50. WITH ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEE OF WINNING. AND WHO THE FUCK WOULD I BRING WITH ME? AND IT WOULD BE SO AWK, JUST US FOUR STANDING IN THE CORNER, TALKING TO OURSELVES AND TRYING NOT TO LOOK OUT OF PLACE, AND THE REST OF THE CAST&ETC THINKING POORLY OF US/"OBVIOUSLY CP FANGIRLS, EYEROLL"/FML, I WILL BE SO JEALOUS IF SOMEONE FROM MY AGE GROUP WINS AND FLAUNTS THIS WINNING. OH, LIFE. WHY SO FULL OF THIS KIND OF HAPPENING?)
towards the beginning (especially during the stripping/in his undershirt and boxers, standing at the very front of the stage moments), i was trying my best to not giggle a little at the more prominent features of his delicious physique, and did very well in keeping a straight face.

...god he was so fucking close. we were technically front row, center, but they set up an extra 6 seats in front of us (the heads of the audience members in those seats kind of disrupted the scene change backgrounds played, but i guess that doesn't really matter). BUT STILL SO FUCKING CLOSE. 10 feet away from the stage. uaefjkdsLcxijaefkmds.

i really enjoyed their sparse utilization of props and background settings; it was nice to see the focus on the characters and the progression of the story through their actions and words, rather than with the aid of detailed props and settings (although chris held onto his "crackberry" and cellphone throughout the entire thing, per his character's personality and occupation demands; he did a superb job of holding telephone dialogues with no actual person on the other line.)

there were twists in the story that i kind of expected as the plot progressed, but there were also twists that i was completely blindsided by. it was a wonderful, supremely interesting play and huiajktnefdshuaefd i still maintain that i would totally see it again in a heartbeat. apparently leo di caprio is starring in the movie version of this play, scheduled to come out 2011. idk what to think about that. i really, really like chris' performance as stephen; i don't think i could find leo's version up to par. maybe that's partially my biased like towards cp himself, but it also is because of the immense talent i saw in chris' performance. there was one point, winding down towards the end of the second act, where stephen and the intern molly are in a heated argument and tensions are running high and--a stopwatch alarm starts to go off, and the owner of said stopwatch didn't even realize until both chris and olivia thirlby stopped their performances (kind of incredulous but amused smiles on their faces), and stared at the man (he happened to be one of the audience members who was sitting in front of us). i felt kind of sorry for the guy; it must have been so embarrassing. after he stopped the alarm chris gave him a thumbs up, lol, and then the two actors turned back towards each other AND CHRIS IMMEDIATELY PICKED UP RIGHT WHERE THEY LEFT OFF, BRINGING THE TENSION COMPLETELY BACK. UHIAEFJKDS. i know they've been through so many rehearsals and performances that the lines should be pretty much second nature to the actors, but the ability to switch on and off and pick everything up and the tension up back to where it was at any time is just... amazing to me. i respect him so, so much more, and really want to see more plays that include his participation.

i loved chris' portrayal of stephen and honestly felt for his character and situations his character is put in and made to deal with. that, if anything, shows the mark of a talented actor.

after the play ended (when chris came out for curtain call and everyone started standing up for a standing ovation, i found i was so overwhelmed i couldn't look directly at chris's face; i kept on avoiding his face and looking at the other actors), bxblurvr_1314 and i sat outside in the courtyard for maybe ten minutes, keeping an eye on the stairs the performers exit their area from, confirmed plans with taintednaivety, and then i decided we should go to the bathroom and should we not see him after, we would come back after the night show. coming out of the bathroom, i saw a glimpse of blue and my heart almost skipped a beat. i saw two blondes of the same age group as us and immediately went over to ask if they were waiting to get a photograph or autograph; i find myself too modest to go up to a celebrity or actor without others trying first... i don't want to be a bother or nuisance, but as i was told many times, these kinds of things are once in a lifetime opportunities. we waited with the two girls for cp to finish up talking to the people who he seemed to know, and were told to wait outside for mr. pine by an usher, and that he would gladly sign things for us if we were to wait. that made me feel really bad; cp, as he was walking out, commented about having to go quickly grab something to eat, and here we were, waiting to accost him. he was nice about it and signed things and took pictures with us -- i was helping the two blonds by taking their picture for them, but the display screen on their digicam was having problems and wouldn't show anything. i asked about it like, three times, and probably annoyed the fuck out of cp :( i just didn't want to take a horrible picture of them with their heads accidentally cut out of the picture! i would have been so angry if someone did that to me. bxblurvr_1314 and i also got a picture with BB! unfortunately, it lacks the gorgeous blue eyes (due to his wearing sunglasses) and has some random shadows that kind of bother me (as you can tell, i am one, dumb for not turning flash on, and two, so jealous of night time photograph get-ers--GUARANTEED PIC WITH BLUE EYES INCLUDED. UHIAEFK.) but i am not at all displeased with the luck we ended up having!!! BB EVEN PULLED ME IN CLOSER, HAND ON MY UPPER ARM, TO TAKE THE PICTURE (AND I KNOW HE DOES THIS FOR EVERYONE BUT HTUAEFJKSD, I FELT SPECIAL.) AND HE'S TALL, TALLER THAN bxblurvr_1314 IN HER HEELS, WHICH HAS TO BE HALF A HEAD TALLER THAN ME. HUIAJKNEDFS. i was totally unable to say any of the things i wanted to say to him, about his acting and how i was impressed that he was able to pick up the tension right after the interruption made by the stopwatch guy; i was silent and kind of just asking him for stuff and thanking him and huiafkds idk. i wish i could have expressed my thoughts and thanks better to him, but i can't really do anything about that now.

IN CONCLUSION: CHRIS PINE IS JUST AS GORGEOUS, IF NOT MORESO, UP CLOSE AS HE IS ON SCREEN. HTUAJNKERFDS. AND HE IS SO FUCKING GREAT IN THE THEATER. I WISH HE WOULD DO MORE PLAYS, BUT IT LOOKS POSITIVE FOR PLENTY OF MOVIES IN THE FUTURE.

1. Apply to the EAP Japan ICU fall 09 program focusing on Contemporary Japanese Culture. Please refer to http://eap.ucop.edu/prospective_participants/countries/japan/contemporary_japan_ICU.shtm for program details. Please let me know right away if you would like to switch to this program. Complete applications for this program are due on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9.

2. Apply to the EAP Japan Meiji Gakuin Spring 09 program. Please note that this program was also very impacted during the last application cycle. CIE cannot guarantee placement for fall alternate students that reapply for this program. The deadline for the spring term is May 18.

3. Apply to an IOP program. Please visit http://www.cie.uci.edu/prospective/iopstudy.shtml for more information.

4. Apply to another EAP program in another country for fall 09. If you are flexible about which country you can go to, it may not be too late to apply to a completely different country or program. A few deadlines have not passed yet so be sure to look at http://www.cie.uci.edu/prospective/deadlines.shtml . Even if a deadline has passed, or it's about to pass, ask us to see if we can still accept a late application! As a suggestion, here are a few programs you may want to consider:

i forgot the thing i hated about japanese (and language classes in general) classes; SKITS. dumb dumb dumb skits. my weakest point is oral presentations, and skits are no exception. kimura-sensei has us writing two skits and memorizing them both, and then she will randomly select one in class for each pair to present. SUCKS. SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS. D:<

...i just finished the saga of tragic hero, lelouch lamperouge, also known as lelouch vi britannia. and i honestly started crying at the end.

i really don't know what to say. code geass... the art was wonderful (さすが、CLAMP!), the plot was so well planned out and intricate, the characters and their development were great... i don't know, just overall, the culmination of everything made this into a very satisfactory piece. i'm not that eloquent with words, but honestly, it was a really, really good anime.

someone on my flist, please watch and commiserate. :x
